Actor, writer, and stand-up comedian.

Educated at Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College in North Sydney, Flanagan later settled in Western Australia, where she worked a series of short-term jobs. After a stint as a physical-education teacher, she began working in advertising; it was after leaving advertising that she began stand-up comedy. A short time later, she began working for Full Frontal as both a writer and performer.

Flanagan lived and worked in the UK from 2001 to 2009, where she wrote for the BBC, Channel 4, and Sky Television, and became known as one of the performers for the Sketch Show. After her return to Australia, she has become known for her work on such shows as The Project, The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, Have You Been Paying Attention?, and Utopia.

She released her memoirs in 2018. In 2019, she released Kitty Flanagan's 488 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Stupidity.
