  • Author's note: My family and I sought asylum to Australia by boat in 2013 when I was fifteen. We were taken to Nauru detention center for around five years before being medivaced to Australia in November 2018. I was there when Fariborz Karami passed away. Now I live in Logan on community detention visa which means I am not allowed to work, study or travel interstate.

But instead of giving First Nations people autonomy of their land and ability to perform their culture, science and caring for Country, the government is obsessed with continuing an extractive colonisation that will continue to kill us and other living beings we are in kinship with.'
