This unit introduces students to a range of literature written for young adults, including verse novels, graphic novels and multi-modal texts. Its primary focus is on contemporary young adult literature and the reception such books receive both from their intended audience and from a more general audience. It explores the historical development of writing for young adults as an independent field as well as recent theoretical approaches to the literary study of such works in a variety of media.
