'Descriptions and focuses on ocean is a necessary part of the development of Australian literature, on which the world famous Australian writer Tim Winton is considered as one of the representatives. This thesis is mainly to introduce Tim Winton and his representative works which focus on the ocean; the author lists the most influential works of Tim Winton in order to present the common as well as the ecological concept of environmental protection reflected in his works.' Shallows was Tim Winton's first Miles Franklin Award, and Winton rose to stardom overnight in Australian literacy circles. The fiction focuses on the whaling chaos in Western Australia and captures influences from the outside world on the whaling industry, and displays the whaling towns people's opinions on whale - killing. The ecological theme is vividly shown through collages of narration by joining together the, news, slogans and scientific and technical literature, Through the description of fierce conflicts between whale killers and whale protectors, Shallows is outstanding as a novel featuring environmental protection.
