The Ipswich Treehouse Story, Ashley Hay , single work column (p. 16-17)
Australia and I, Will Self , single work essay
'The author explores what Australia represents specifically for a writer from overseas with Australia not only as a subject but also as potential muse or inspiration. Topics include the definition of the nation-state as a monopoly on the exercise of violence, if Australian writers are big enough to critique Australia itself and to listen to someone from overseas critiquing their motherland, and the role of the tyranny of distances in shaping Australian national self-consciousness.' (Publication abstract)
(p. 32-40)
An Eye for Tyrants, Peter Conrad , single work criticism

'The article focuses on n Australian film director and screenwriter Justin Kurzel. Topics include charismatic nature of the heroes and villains of Kurzel's films including John Bunting, the psychotic Messiah in "Snowtown," Kurzel's fascination with leaders which is a confessional undertone of the need for directors to be autocrats, and why Kurzel finds films as very visceral. Also mentioned is Kurzel's adaptation of "Macbeth" which sheds the moral qualms that inhibit Shakespeare's character.' (Publication summary)
