'You had to be fair dinkum to enlist after the reality of Gallipoli hit home. A new breed of warrior and patriot stepped up as ANZAC's second wave. Among them were 152 men of the 7th Battalion - fruit pickers and farmers, boot makers and blacksmiths, miners and mailmen, tailors and tinsmiths. They fought under the colours of 'mud and blood'. History came to know them as 'The Fair Dinkums'.
'The Fair Dinkums charts the lives of a remarkable band of brothers - before, during and after war. From boyhoods on farms and in cities, to training camps in the searing sands of Egypt, to Gallipoli's fatal shore, and on to killing fields in France and beyond. This is the incredible stirring story of young Australian men born in the right place at the wrong time, whose bravery and ingenuity made them legend. ' (Publication summary)
