Carissa Lee graduated from Flinders University Drama Centre. She has worked as an actor and in the Indigenous visual arts sector, during which she completed the Black and White! Indigenous Writing and Editing program. Lee also worked as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program Coordinator for the South Australian Writers Centre in Adelaide and as a freelance writer for Book Riot.

Lee later relocated to Melbourne, and in 2018 was undertaking her PhD in Indigenous theatre while working as an actor and freelance author.
