Claire Haywood was a performer for the National Theatre at the Playhouse, Perth and for the Winter Theatre, where she was also Artistic Direcetor.In Sydney she founded Underground Theatre Productions and was Artistic Director from 1988-1992. In 1995 she was the recipient of a writer's fellowship from the Literature Board of the Australia Council.

Claire Haywood has written episodes for McLeod's Daughters and Auction Squad, and as well has several produced plays and a commissioned feature script. She has been a script reader for Arena Television and Fox Studios Australia.
