Graham Sheil's boyhood was divided between Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs and the goldmining country south of Ballarat where his father had gold and diatomaceous mines. He left school at fifteen and began writing in the late 1960s. He managed a wholesale optical company as well as writing. His short stories appeared in many periodicals and anthologies in Australia, the United States, Canada and China. Sheil also wrote several plays
