BiographyHistory

Michael Williams has worked as a writer, editor, publisher and broadcaster. He has been employed by Text Publishing, Random House, Scribe Publications and Affirm Press, and has also worked for New York literary scout Maria Campbell.

Williams's reviews have been published in a range of Australian newspapers and literary journals including Australian Book Review and Meanjin. In 2009 he was a member of the Advisory Panel for the Melbourne Prize for Literature.

Williams was the inaugural Head of Programming at the Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, Melbourne (appointed in 2009) and, in 2011, was appointed director of the Centre, now called the Wheeler Centre. He stepped down from the role of director in March 2020.
