BiographyHistory

Western Australian journalist and legislator. In 1879 Cockburn-Campbell became half owner (with Charles Harper) and editor of the West Australian newspaper, the latter postition held until 1887. He continued as a political writer for four years until, after responsible government was proclaimed in 1890, he was appointed to the Legislative Council and gave up his journalism. Cockburn-Campbell was interested in the arts and he was president of the Perth Amateur Operatic Society and a minor composer.
