BiographyHistory

Oscar Redding (born 1974) grew up in the Wee Jasper valley near the foothills of the Brindabella Ranges and received his earliest education at the tiny Wee Jasper school in the village of Wee Jasper. His family still live in the region.

Now based in Melbourne, Oscar has always had a passion for writing and acting and has gradually worked his way up through the industry. His direction of the 2007 film 'The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark' drew the following praise from 'The Australian' newspaper film critic: "Oscar Redding has achieved something spectacular: he has created a new Hamlet, an interpretation so radical and emotionally searing that it redefines the role".

The following is kindly supplied by Madman Entertainment:

"Oscar has performed with some of Australia's most exciting and progressive theatre companies including the Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company and Playbox Theatre. His television and film work includes Sea Change, The Secret Life of Us, BlueHeelers, Stingers, Ponderosa, Skeletons, Backlands, and the short film Hell's Gates.

As a writer/director, critics have compared Oscar's work to theatre heavy weights, Romeo Casstalucci, Peter Brook and theatre group Forced Entertainment for his productions of Marie, Convict 102, Macbeth's Cock, 51 Ashworth Street, The Arcade Project, An Evening with the Devil, and Hamlet.
