BiographyHistory

Born in Whyalla, Bec Kavanagh grew up in the Adelaide Hills. A freelance writer, reviewer, and young-adult fiction specialist, she founded the A Thousand Words Festival in 2009, to encourage the reading and writing of young-adult fiction. She has also been the program coordinator of the Stella Schools Program, which launched in Victoria in 2014, and devised the Stella Schools Program resource kit. She works intensively in schools, as a speaker and as a volunteer for Pigeons, a literacy organisation focusing on primary schools.
