Geraldine Cox is known internationally for her humanitarian work and notably her compassion for the orphans of Cambodia. Cox started her career with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs in 1970, and was touched by the poverty in Asia when she was posted to Phnom Penh. She was posted to various places before working for eight years at the Chase Manhattan Bank in Sydney. A further visit to Phnom Penh led to her involvement with an orphaned Cambodian child until she relocated there in 1996. Cox co-founded the Sunrise Children’s Villages and in 2000 was made a Member of the Order of Australia. She has also won numerous humanitarian awards and was appointed to serve on the International Advisory Board of the Oasis Africa charity.
