BiographyHistory

Charles Kemp arrived in Australia in 1825 and settled with his family, initially in Port Stephens. He moved to Sydney in 1831 where he worked as a reporter, and later assistant editor, for the Sydney Monitor before continuing his journalism at the Sydney Herald. In 1841, Kemp and John Fairfax took over the Herald (later the Sydney Morning Herald).

Kemp became a prominent colonist in the fields of business, politics and religion.
