BiographyHistory

Born of Jewish parents, Rosa Safransky is a speaker of French and Yiddish. She studied design at the City University of New York and also at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. Safransky has worked as a graphic designer for magazines, as a greeting card designer and as a freelance writer. In 1983 and 1984 she was awarded Victorian Ministry of the Arts grants. Safransky won the 1988 Canberra Times/Commonwealth Bank Short Story Prize. Her work was read on ABC Radio National in 1988 and on University of Technology radio, Sydney, in 1990.

Safransky has read at numerous public forums including Carnivale, Sydney and Piccolo Spoleto, Melbourne in 1989, and Perriers Writers' Week, Sydney and the Melbourne Writers' Centre in 1990.
