BiographyHistory

John Thompson is a Sydney-based writer and historian. He worked for many years at the National Library of Australia where he held a number of senior positions including Director, Australian Collections and Services (1987-1992). (Thompson has written extensively about the National Library and its work.) Prior to his time at the National Library, Thompson worked at the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne. He has been an active member of the ACT arts community including his support of Edition+Artist Book Studio. In 2001, Thompson was a Research Scholar in the History Program, Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University while undertaking a doctoral thesis on the historian, Geoffrey Serle. He completed his thesis in 2004.
