Alice Shore was awarded a Certificate of Teaching from Wattle Park Teachers' College and also an Associateship in Arts and Education from the University of Adelaide (both 1961). Between 1965-1957 she travelled through Europe. She enrolled at the University of Adelaide, getting her BA in 1971, then lived in France and Germany 1972-75.
Alice has taught in SA country and suburban schools, at Saltash Business College, and in Germany. She has done translation work in France, and has worked as a research assistant in the Faculty of Music at the University of Adelaide (1975-6). She is actively involved in Animal Liberation, the Vegetarian Society, Trees for Life and the International Network for Religion and Animals, and has written a number of articles and pamphlets on animal rights. She has organized three 'Poets in the Pub' sessions at Birdwood (1998-9) and was Secretary of the Torrens Valley Writers Group 1995-9.
Several of her unpublished works have attracted awards. Her poem 'A String of Pearls' won Equal First for Haiku at the Gunnedah Eisteddfod 1997, her poem 'Gratitude' was Highly Commended for Poetry at the C J Dennis Festival 1997, and her poem 'A Lighter Gravity' was Highly Commended at the Leeton Eisteddfod 1999. Her short story 'The Trooper's Tale' was Commended in the ABC's Imelda Awards 1996. She was equal second in Greek/Australian Writers of Poetry for Peace, 1999 and first in the Barossa Word Weavers' Seminar Short Story competition 1999. In 2000 she self-published Travels-in-a-not-so-Wonderland; recollections of people, places and events in her travels in Europe 1965-1975. She has had short stories accepted and read on 5UV.
