'SET in the fourteenth century in France, The Thundering Duke is a period drama. To the Comte de Granville and his fair lady, a visit from the thundering Duke could only have one end, as they have been sworn enemies since the slaying of the Comte’s father by the Duke. Plundering and duelling are introduced in an unexpected manner by author A. E. Martin in this play. The odds seem all in favour of the hated Duke, for de Granville duels under a crushing handicap that in the end proves his great ally and the Duke's undoing.'

1 1 Aladdin George Willoughby Ltd , A. E. Martin , 1913 single work musical theatre pantomime fantasy

This version of Aladdin reportedly stayed close to the 'Arabian Nights' tales, with the only radical change being a change of setting, from Tartary to China. Several reviews also suggest that the large number of specialty acts, many of whom were well-known vaudeville artists, gave the production an air of revue as much as that of pantomime.

Songs known to have been incorporated into the story were: "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" and "Moon Song" (sung by Carrie Moore), "Whistle It" (Grace Palotta) and "Heart that's Free" (Mabel Batchelor).
