BiographyHistory

Born in London of a Danish father and British mother, Michael Stephens emigrated to Australia with this family when he was six weeks old. After graduating from Sydney University with a first-class honours degree in Arts and Law, Stephens lived in Europe for a year, worked part-time and began to write short stories and a novel. In 1988 he won the Lyndall Hadow Short Story Award and several other awards as well as being short-listed for the Australian/Vogel Literary Award. Stephens published his first short-listed novel Matinee in 1991.
