BiographyHistory

Lisa Jacobson is a poet and fiction writer and has taught Professional Writing and Editing at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She studied sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts and has a Master of Arts (MA) degree from the University of Melbourne. Jacobson's MA comprised a thesis titled Fairy Tale Rewriting from Mother Goose to Angela Carter and a play titled Fairy Tales for the Future. (The play was performed at La Mama Theatre in 1994.) In 1990 Jacobson was awarded the Felix Myer Scholarship and in 1998 she won the Harper/Collins HQ Short Story award.

Jacobson received a Writer's Fellowship in 1994 from the Eleanor Dark Foundation, Varuna Writers' Centre and has been writer-in-residence at Werribee Zoo. In 2006 she was progressing towards completion of a verse novel, The Sunlit Zone, for her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at La Trobe University.
