BiographyHistory

King was born in Ipswich in 1948, and grew up in the suburb of Dinmore with his parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.

In the 1960s King worked in Canberra and Sydney before taking up a position in the United Nations New York Headquarters. He then went on to work and live in Bangladesh, Bangkok, Cairo, and Damascus.

King's autobiographical Black Hours (1996) focuses on memories of a childhood, a sense of belonging and living with racism.
