BiographyHistory

Jeff Fiddes, the general editor of Yackandandah Playscripts, started as an engineer with a passion for theatre. After a stint with the Pram Factory, he decided to publish playscripts. In 1981, he chose an 'Australian-sounding name that wasn't "wombat"' and started publishing plays. Originally he planned to produce 15 titles a year and to publish 100 titles before he died; they were sold for $2.00 each - the price of a packet of cigarettes. Mark Leehy in his article about Yackandandah calls the publisher 'a valuable cultural archive' (Publishing Studies No 2 1996: 43).
