BiographyHistory

Lesley Stern has taught film, theatre and writing at Murdoch and La Trobe universities and the University of New South Wales and she has also taught at universities in Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom and the USA. Stern has an Honours degree from London University and a Ph. D. from Sydney University. She has a large number of international publications to her credit and is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Brooks Visting Fellowship from the Department of English at the University of Queensland. She was a Visiting Fellow at the Getty Research Institute for a seminar on Gesture in 1999. Stern is a member of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. In 2000, she took up an appointment at the University of California, San Diego, as a Professor in the Department of Visual Arts. Although her reputation was established in the fields of film theory and history she is also known for her fiction writing and her video productions.
