BiographyHistory

Susan Beinart, has lived in South Africa and Australia for equal lengths of time. She is an ex-Sydney dweller who resides in Albury. Leaving Cape Town, London, and then Sydney, for non-metropolitan Albury, was the trigger that awakened in her a need to write. A constant theme in her fiction is abandonment and loss of people and places. This is sometimes reflected in the pain caused to children by parents who desert them. Other issues are racism, evoked by her memories of apartheid in the South Africa of her youth, and cross-culturalism, reinforced by her former longstanding career teaching English to adult migrants and refugees.
