BiographyHistory

Joseph Banks was an English naturalist and botanist who accompanied James Cook on the Endeavour. Banks collected many species of Australian plants when Cook landed along Australia's east coast. Banks had copperplates prepared of these specimens. The drawings later appeared in Illustrations of Australian Plants Collected in 1770 During Captain Cook's Voyage Round the World in H.M.S. Endeavour (1905).
