An Australian actress prominent in theatre, film and television, June Salter's career spanned six decades. She first came to prominence through Sydney's Phillip Street Theatre in the 1950s, appearing in a number of revues and later worked in Tivoli productions. Salter's television career began in December 1956 when she performed the song 'I'm getting nothing for Christmas' (which featured in a Phillip Street revue) at the ATN7 studios. She later worked on the Mavis Bramston Show comedy series and established herself as a dramatic actress with her role in the long-running ABC series Certain Women (playing solicitor Freda Lucas).
Arguably her best known role was schoolteacher Elizabeth McKenzie in the soap opera The Restless Years. She also made regular guest appearances in A Country Practice as Matron Hilda Arrowsmith. Among her other television credits were: Neighbours, Cop Shop, Division 4, Matlock Police, Catwalk (1971), Number 96, G.P., Murder Call, All Saints, Holiday Island, The Sullivans, The Adventures of Skippy and Farscape. Salter also appeared in the 1982 telemovie Wilde's Domain and the 1984 mini-series The Last Bastion. Her last television role was in the second season of Search for Treasure Island (2000).
Salter provided voiceovers in Dot and the Kangaroo (1977, as Mrs Platypus) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1985), and made her only film appearance in Caddie (1976).
