Marian Marcus Clarke, daughter of Marcus Clarke and the youngest of his six children, was only four months old when her father died. She became an actor, following in her mother's footsteps after whom she was named. Clarke lived in the United States for several years, where she appeared in at least one Broadway play, The Great Way. Her ambition was to see her father's novel For the Term of His Natural Life adapted to screen by an Australian company. She achieved this ambition when the film was made in 1927, directed by Norman Dawn. Clarke played the part of Lady Devine, Rufus Dawes's mother. Other Australian films in which she appeared were Officer 666 (1916) and The Romance of Runnibede (1928).
