Film and television director, screenwriter.

Stephen Wallace began his film career at Film Australia (q.v.), making documentaries. In the early to mid-1970s, he began making independent short drama films, including Brittle Weather Journey, Con Man Harry, and Break Up (1975), before attracting much critical acclaim for The Love Letters from Teralba Road (1977), which he both wrote and directed. Wallace's credits as a director and screenwriter have since included Stir (1980), The Boy Who Had Everything (1984, aka Winner Take All in the USA), For Love Alone (1986), Hunger (1986), Olive (1987), Blood Oath (1990 aka Prisoners of the Sun, USA), and Turtle Beach (1992).

As a television director, Wallace has been involved in such productions as Women of the Sun (1981, episode three), Mail Order Bride (1984), Winners ('Quest Beyond Time', 1985), and episodes for The Flying Doctors (1991), The Seven Deadly Sins ('Envy', 1993), Twisted Tales (1996), and Water Rats (1998).

In addition to his filmmaking career, Wallace was President of the Australian Screen Directors Association between 1992 and 2000.
