School library specialist, reviewer and author. As the wife of a Presbyterian minister, Peggy Young was not expected to go out to work but a friendship with the American pianist Hepzibah Menuhin inspired her to obtain an Arts Degree from the University of Melbourne. After graduating, Peggy Young applied for the librarian course at the State Library of Victoira and was awarded a scholarship that was never actually given to her as she was a married woman. Peggy Young taught as a teacher-librarian for 30 years and founded the Independent Schools Library Association, the forerunner to the School Library Association of Victoria. She served on the Victorian and the National executives of the Australian Children's Book Council and founded and co-ordinated the Council's Chrichton Award. In the 1970's and 1980's she co-ordinated the review panel for The Australian's quarterly review of children's books. In 1951 she had three of her short stories published under the pseudonym Rosemary Schooling.
