'Missed out on your fix of family friendly television madness? SBS on demand has you hooked up for watching, and guest me-viewer, Simon Chan has you hooked up for the very personal experience of sitting down to experience The Family Law.

We asked Simon for a “me-view”, i.e. what does a creative, smart, Asian Australian see when they connect with art/culture that is (at last, some might say) directly connecting with them as an audience' (preliminary blurb).

Adapted by Simon Chan from a version by Edward Golden, The Happy Prince tells the story of a statue of a prince that gives its precious gems to a swallow to distibute to the poor. The swallow, which has been left behind when its flock migrates south for the winter, eventually dies of cold and exhaustion. DEprived of its beauty the statue is torn down and melted, leaving behind only its broken heart and the dead swallow. These are taken up to heaven by an angel that has deemed them the two most precious things in the city. This is affirmed by God and the pair live forever a garden paradise.

Once upon a time, there was a velveteen rabbit who appeared in the nursery one Christmas - a toy for one lucky little boy. During his quest to become "real" the rabbit meets many colourful characters Including the ‘Rag Doll’ and ‘The Clockwork Mouse’, as well as sinister swing dancing rabbits 'Bunny & Clyde'. With the help of the wise 'Skin horse' and the magical 'Dew-Drop Fairy', 'Velveteen' is made real by the boy who loves him.

Inspired by, rather than a strict adaptation of Margery Williams's classic 1922 children's story, Simon Chan's musical version of The Velveteen Rabbit integrates a wide array of musical styles.
