BiographyHistory

Margaret Mackie attended Abbotsleigh Church of England School for Girls. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 1936 with an arts degree and then furthered her studies at Oxford University where she took an MA in philosophy, politics and economics.

Returning to Australia, Mackie gained a Dip. Ed. at the University of Sydney and went on to teach at various schools around New South Wales. In 1955 she was recruited to lecture in the external studies program at the University of New England.

Before her retirement in 1974, Mackie wrote a number of text books for teachers. She maintained her interest in education and teaching throughout her life.
