'We are full of worlds that can't be contained by a pill. MAD Poetry is an initiative that originated in the Illawarra, evolving in 2019 into workshop pilots in Port Kembla and Wollongong supported by the Mental Health Commission of NSW. 2020 sees MAD Poetry find a home at Red Room Poetry coordinated by David Stavanger.

'The key focus is on creating a safe writing space for emerging voices with a lived/living experience of mental health issues to express how they see the world, where these poets can define themselves through their creativity not their diagnosis, and explore by pen and page their experience of illness, institutions, recovery, self-care, and beyond.'

'Red Room Poetry’s Writing Water: Rain, River, Reef project commissioned celebrated poets – Eunice Andrada, Tony Birch, Luke Davies and Georgina Reid – and invited public submissions that looked below the surface and reimagined our essential relationships with water. From the slow-moving waters of TarraWarra in Victoria to the extinction of corals and conversations with wetlands in Western Australia, poems are provocations to honour, remember and interrogate our responsibilities with water in a time of environmental change.'

1 y separately published work icon In Your Hands The Red Room Company , Sydney : The Red Room Company , 2020 21414272 2020 anthology poetry 'What is a poet without an audience? What is a new book without hands to hold it up to the light? The outbreak of COVID-19 has meant the cancellation of live poetry events and writing festivals Australia wide, resulting in many poets and their publishers losing income and key opportunities to showcase new work, not to mention build readerships and celebrate the words beyond print.

'To offer a little relief in response to this, Red Room Poetry and Oranges & Sardines Foundation have collaborated to create In Your Hands – a free digital collection featuring 80 poems by poets whose recent, current or forthcoming release has been directly affected by the closure of live events. All poets are paid for their contribution to In Your Hands and the collection encourages audiences to buy copies of the books.' (Publication summary)
