BiographyHistory

Danielle Charak has been a teacher of Yiddish, French, Jewish history and values, and English for migrants.

Born in Belgium in 1939, the daughter of Polish Jews, Charak and her family survived World War II by hiding in Brussels, before migrating to Australia after the war. She attended Yiddish supplementary schools in Brussels and Melbourne, before completing a Yiddish teachers' course.

She has recorded books in Yiddish for the visually impaired and has been a translator. For many years, Charak was also involved in radio broadcasting of programs in Yiddish on 3EA, which later became SBS.
