American author, Jonathan Franzen has joined with residents of Watson's Bay, Sydney and others, in fighting redevelopment plans by Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer for his 1880s harbourfront house Boongarre at 14 Pacific Street, also known as the Stead House. It was the childhood home of the Christina Stead.

Garry Maddox and Kelsey Munro report on a disagreement between film director Phillip Noyce and historian Keith Windschuttle over the character of the Aboriginal girls depicted in Rabbit-Proof Fence. The reporters state that in Windschuttle's 2009 book The Fabrication of Aboriginal History, the historian claims that the girls were removed for their own welfare after reports of 'sexual activity with white men working in the area'. Noyce disputes this claim and provides evidence to the contrary.
