BiographyHistory

Bajram Redzepagic trained as a doctor and worked in Bosnia as a kidney specialist. He also developed a dual career as a novelist. In 1995 Redzepagic was removed by military personnel from the hospital in Sarajevo at which he worked and was then held in detention. (He was reportedly detained on a previous occasion in 1991 for criticising the role of the Yugoslav Army in the war with Croatia.) Redzepagic's case was supported by both PEN International and Amnesty International. Redzepagic lived for a time in Germany and later settled in Australia. His novels Brod and Pobunjenik (1978) and Brod (1986) were published in Sarajevo.
