BiographyHistory

After completing a BA in Fine Arts and Indonesian Studies, Andy Fuller lived in Medan, North Sumatra and Yogyakarta, Central Java. He has since completed an MA in Indonesian Studies. He writes poetry, short stories and essays based around the experiences of music, literature and nature. He has also been engaged in translating short stories by Kurnia Effendi and a novel by Seno Gumira Ajidarma (Negeri Senja).

He hopes to expand and broaden Australia's knowledge of Indonesia when he works at Lontar Foundation in Jakarta as a writer in residence under the 2005 Asialink Writers' Residencies programme. The main project will be compiling an anthology of Indonesian short fiction titled The Lontar Anthology of Indonesian Short Fiction. He will also be pursuing his own writings; in particular, his work on contemporary Indonesian literature will be launched from the research conducted for his MA thesis, which concerned the presence of postmodern attributes in the fiction of Seno Gumira Ajidarma.
