This work is thought to have been first published in the Worker [Sydney] on 15 July, 1893. However, as there are currently no Australian library holdings of this issue of the Worker, the date of first publication remains to be confirmed. For further information see Paul Eggert, (ed.), While the Billy Boils : The Original Newspaper Versions (2013), pg. 150.

This work was originally published with the title 'Some Day. A Swagman's Love Story'. The title was shortened to 'Some Day' for inclusion in While the Billy Boils (1896), and this continued in subsequent publications.
