"Cordite Poetry Review is an online journal publishing poetry from emerging and established Australian poets. [It] breaks down the barriers between art and text by presenting poetry from Australia and abroad on a free, web-based platform. Moving along a continuum from its broadsheet beginnings, Cordite seeks to interact with new technologies, and in doing so to provide readers with a critical appraisal of what's hot, and what's simply not."
-
Cordite changed its numbering system after issue 57.1. Prior issues retain the original numbering on AustLit.

Diamonds in the Rough : Cordite Poetry Review, Kent MacCarter, and the Australian Poetry Industry
2018
single work
column
— Appears in: Los Angeles Review of Books , July 2018;'An editor at a nationally-prominent, poetry-specific publishing house and I were recently talking about “the industry.” After reading my manuscript, she relayed that, despite the fact that she found the poems to be of “high enough standard,” her press would not be able to publish it. This was simply for the reason that the press wasn’t taking on any new work whatsoever. I was both surprised and dismayed, and not only for reasons of self-interest. This news came amidst the recent downturn in Australian poetry more generally, and to see yet another press fold made me concerned for all the poets I knew, and the hungry readers of poetry that I know exist.' — Appears in: Australian Poetry Journal , vol. 6 no. 2 2016; (p. 70-82)'Just one of the many really interesting trails that thread through the seeming wilds of Australian poetry over the last two or so decades (cripes, has it been that long?) is the slow, constant morphing one of Cordite. Sydney poets Adrian Wiggins and Peter Minter, founders of Cordite Poetry and Poetics Review, launched their first issue in 1997. After five issues in a broadsheet format and an oscillating editorship that included Margaret Cronin and Jennifer Kremmer, the editorship was handed over in 2005 to David Prater, whose key innovation was to appoint guest editors for mini- and, later, entire issues.'

criticism
— Appears in: Rochford Street Review , March-April no. 3 2012; 'One of the tasks we have set ourselves at Rochford Street Review is to discover and review the material being produced by the small literary and cultural presses around Australia. This means not only the established literary and cultural journals, such as Southerly, Meanjin, Island, Overland and the like, but the new and emerging magazines and websites which, we believe, are critical to the strength and vibrancy of Australian writing. We will attempt to do this by regularly, at least once a quarter, undertaking a detailed of review of what has been published - picking out the highlights and shining a light into as many corners as we can.'
