Taking about 8,000 texts as its basis, this study attempts to examine critically and finally disprove the long-held assumption that Australia's literature is averse or at least indifferent to religion and metaphysics. Throughout the study it is demonstrated that almost all areas of private, social and public life which are usually commented on in secular poetry are also - and equally well - addressed from a sub specie aeternitatis vantage point. This metaphysical stance does not necessarily have to be a Christian one, it can also be a non-Christian or a philosophical one. (Abstract by the author)
