Koch describes his method of writing while working on his first novel The Boys in the Island ; he describes the characters in his second novel Across the Sea Wall ; he speaks of the theme and reasons for writing his third novel The Year of Living Dangerously. Koch provides some biographical details, describing his family environment, his studies in Tasmania and his beginnings as a novelist.
