'Rex drives a cab and has never left Broken Hill in his life. When he discovers he doesn't have long to live, he decides to drive across the heart of the country to Darwin, where he's heard he will be able to die on his own terms; but along the way he discovers that before you can end your life, you've got to live it, and to live it you've got to share it... Notes

  • Based on the true story of Max Bell, a Broken Hill taxi-driver who drove to Darwin in 1996 with the intention of being euthanased due to his stomach cancer.

Production Details

  • First produced by Pork Chop Productions and Black Swan Theatre at the Octagon Theatre, Perth, 3-17 April 2003 and at The Sydney Opera House 24 April-24 May 2003.


    Produced at the Old Mill Theatre, South Perth, 22 June - 7 July 2018.
