Author's note: Details in this poem are indebted to Mark McKenna's Looking for Blackfella's Point. George and Peter Imlay were squatters at Twofold Bay, in southern New South Wales, with holdings in other parts of the empire. George would memorize British history at night, using his own written catechism. The path to his hut was paved with whale vertebrae. He killed himself in 1847.
