History

Terms for this competition appeared in the Great Southern Herald 15 December 1950.

As part of the Commonwealth Jubilee celebrations, the Commonwealth is sponsoring a literary competition. No entry fee is charged and the competitions are open to natural born or naturalised British subjects. Entries submitted are to have an Australian setting, Australian characters or association with Australia and prises offered are:—

A Novel: First Prize £1,000; Second Prize £600.

A non-fiction prose work of volume length with literary value, preferably with an Australian association, such as a biography or collection of biographies, travel book, historical work or collection of essays: First Prize £1,000; Second Prize £500.

Short Story: First Prize £200: Second Prize £100.

A long poem associated with the occasion: First £350, Second £100.

A lyric or set of lyrics: Prizes totalling £350.
