History
The Yvonne Cohen Award is named in honour of the late non-indigenous artist who lived a large part of her life on Timara Island. The award was open to indigenous Australians aged 30 years or under. A cash prize of $5000 was awarded to young indigenous artists. (Herald-Sun, 14 June, 2005 p.37)

'Fostering the creative spark and future potential of talented young Indigenous artists is the annual Yvonne Cohen Award for Creative Indigenous Australian Youth. The late Yvonne Cohen was a successful non-Indigenous artist with a beautiful spirit, who lived a huge part of her life on Timara Island. The award, open to individuals 30 years of age and under, bestows the recipient with $5,000 in recognition and aid of their creative future potential. Auspiced by the Victorian College of the Arts' Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development, the Yvonne Cohen Award recognises past achievements. Each year the trustee of the award, Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy, bestows this significant financial encouragement to one individual enabling them to continue their artistic endeavours.'
