History

'The Mallacoota Arts Council has hosted the E. J. Brady Short Story Competition for eighteen years. Named in honour of local poet Edwin James Brady (1869-1952), the competition recognises Mallacoota's longstanding literary and artistic traditions. But it looks far beyond the tiny community of Mallacoota in search of talented storytellers from throughout Australia and beyond. There are two categories: Major Short Story, for stories of 2500 words or less; and Very Short Story, for stories under 700 words.'

Notes

  • The E J Brady Short Story Competition has been hosted by the Mallacoota Arts Council for over a decade (2009). The competition is in honour of Edwin James Brady who came to Mallacoota in 1909 and set up his "Writers' Camp" at Captains Point, where Henry Lawson visited in 1910. The competition is promoted through the state writers' centres, and regional newspapers.
