History
The Thousand Words Festival Short Story Competition was part of the 2011 ‘A Thousand Words Festival’ held on 23-24 September in Melbourne.

A Thousand Words Festival Short Story Competition was inaugurated in 2009 and offered in junior and secondary student categories; an emerging writers category for adults was added later.
The winners are announced during A Thousand Words Festival and winning entries are published in Viewpoint: On Books for Young Adults. 'Stories can be on any topic however must be exactly 1000 words.'
