This topic offers the opportunity to write poetry in intensive workshop sessions. Students will learn about the writer's life and the performance aspect of poetry as well as about the variety of forms and styles developed over the centuries. Frequent exercises will be set to stimulate the imagination and to allow students to practise their craft. This topic aims to extend students' knowledge of a range of periods and national traditions of poetry; develop students' imaginative, editing and critical skills; increase students' understanding of figurative language, form and metre; and provide students with the opportunity to hear industry professionals and practitioners.
