— Appears in: The Queenslander , 2 December 1922; (p. 15-17) Madge, heartbroken after the death of her mother, dismisses a marriage proposal from her friend Derrick, but when Derrick's half-cousin, Allan, arrives from England, Madge's interest is piqued. Allan, however, sagely advises Madge that work is the answer to overcoming her grief. Madge acts upon his advice and trains as a nurse in Brisbane. When Allan visits Madge twelve months later, he knows the time is right to propose to her.

— Appears in: The Queenslander , 24 December 1921; (p. 42-43) A prospector encounters an old, crippled Aboriginal man who asks if he can have his fancy pocket knife. The prospector reluctantly agrees, and the Aboriginal man proffers in exchange, with words of warning, a stuffed lizard purported to bring good and bad luck. Some bizarre events ensue for the prospector.
