This is a portrait of isolation and confusion, as a young Italian woman struggles to adapt to a new Australian life. Rosa waited five years to join her husband in Australia, only to be widowed three months after her arrival. She supports herself cleaning offices. With no command of English and without family or social contacts, she lives in desperate loneliness until she meets an Anglo-Italian teenager who hesitantly offers her friendship.
